Mate - a Legal Cannabis-type Experience?

Hi all, this is the first post. I'm starting this blog to share with other Yerba Mate fans everyone interested my yerba experimentations.

So, I started using Yerba Mate a month ago and since then I've been drinking the miraculous mate tea every day. Mate was to me a huge revelation. I didn't imagine that something so good can be legal - yet it is and it is also inexpensive.

To me mate is like a cannabis high - the body high part alone - leaving the mind completely grounded in the reality. There is no need to learn to function under mate-high - at most I get a slight dizziness. I know who I am and where I am, I can talk, write, work - anything. It's just that I feel super charged with an amazingly sweet body buzz.

Today I tested a mix of Yerba Mate and Ginseng+Cinamon tea. The ginseng part is just for experimentation. I have also tried Ginkgo Biloba with Yerba Mate. They both enhance the mate-high.

Ginseng is also an aphrodisiac, on top of Yerba Mate which is another powerful aphrodisiac so I feel super charged in more than one way.

Please tell me if you tried these combinations or if you can compare the effects of mate to cannabis. I tried to share my experience with a few of my friends and they claim they can't feel anything - except that they are all unable to appreciate the (slightly) bitter aroma of yerba mate and didn't take enough tea.

See you soon. Waiting for comments.

I love, love, love yerba mate (although these days I typically drink it like strong tea, with a filter, rather than in my gourd or plastic "travel gourd.") I got into mate over my honeymoon, when my wife and I saw the gourd and bombilla for the first time. You've got to love any food or drink that comes with its own ritual---like absinthe---and mate was not a let down. I love the taste and the energy I get from it. Alas, I don't get any cannabis-like sensations. If I did, I'd be drinking mate even more!

Mate have nothing to do with drugs of any type. Yerba mate cames from Paraguay and it is a tradition in south of Brazil, Argentine and Uruguay.

yea I have been drinking mate for like three weeks and a couple times I have felt high but now I drink it so often I probably haven't been "sober" for a while so I don't notice the difference. It makes me less hungry, more concentrated, it wakes me up but relaxes me. I have gotten some mild visual distortions ? But I don't know the quality of the tea I am drinking, I have ecoteas unsmoked yerba, if someone knows a better more authentic, or stronger brand ease let me know. And get back to me on those visual distortions

Yerba mate is great for the body! It nourishes the body and is a natural energy booster. I have sipped yerba mate before in the past when I had to pull an all-nighter to finish a paper. It kept me awake and alert, and best of all, it did it naturally. I understand why some may think there is a lot of caffeine in it because of the "awake" feeling you get when it's drunk, but I think it important to know the facts. There has been debate as to whether it has caffeine. I try to stay away from caffeine. If a soda has caffene in it, I won't drink it. Yerba mate has what I believe is called, "matein" in it. It acts LIKE caffeine. So, you get that "awake" and "alert" feeling that I guess you get with caffeine. Again, I stay away from caffeine. However, you DO NOT get ANY of the negative effects of caffeine. Drinking yerba mate may also help you lose weight if you drink it before exercise, especially if you exercise in the morning on an open stomache. The stuff really just does the body good. I recommend the brand from Wisdom Natural Brands, which is the old Wisdom of the Ancients. By the way, the drink has NOTHING to do whatsoever, in any way, with drugs! I assume the high that has been discussed here refers to the feeling of energy and alertness. I admittedly do not have any experience with being high.

Hate to burst your bubble but anything you put into your body that enters your brain and alters your brain chemistry to create an effect is a drug. Coffee is a drug, tobacco and alcohol are drugs, chocolate is a drug, yerba is a drug, hell even turkey meat (via tryptophan) is a drug.

Don't get too caught up in the "War on Drugs" to realize that drugs are something all humans use on a daily basis. The decisions we make about what we put into our bodies need to be made on sound science and nutrition (and individual will), not sponsored lies and propaganda like D.A.R.E spreads.

And you get "high" on a daily basis!

This is such an amazing entry and I love to read more of it so that I will be able to look over and have it as an inspiration for further articles to write about when it comes to updates on legalizing marijuana and it's pros and cons too. I do hope you will get to visit our official website and let us know what you think about it. Here is the link

I guess you know that argentinian people is the most mate drinker in the world. They drink mate in breakfast, in the job, in the afternoon, before dinner, after dinner or after some parties, just like coffe in other countries. So, they can be considered experts in the art. The main difference with coffe is that if you are in a meeting, you only have one mate and you share it with the others.

You have to ask to argentinians for his experience and his recommendations.

As far as connecting your legal Cannabis experience with Mate I personally think it's a big of a stretch.

I've been drinking Yerba Mate for about 6 months now and I also smoke on occasion and haven't found it really being similar. They do however have an interesting complimentary effect.

The mate seems to get a great effect since cannabis tends to heighten your senses. (Personal experience that is)

Also it's hard to generalize both herbs saying that there are different types of yerba mate products out there some that are stronger than others. The same goes for cannabis. With Indicas/Sativas/Hybrids and then hundreds of varieties each person gets different effects.

Now in terms of the cultural aspects of sharing mate and passing it around. After visiting Uruguay and Argentina I did kinda feel like the smoking ritual was going around. Almost like a peace pipe. It does give a relaxed effect and makes you easy going but at least still conscious of what is going on around you.

I hope that this comment brings a bit of info to your question. Enjoy your mate and welcome to the culture of mate drinking.

I don't drink coffee as much; maybe 1-2 cups a year, but have been browsing the internet all night about Yerba Mate, and I'm considering giving it a try to see how it tastes, feels and then come back and explain here about it. MyMateWorld.com is the place I'm going to be buying from when I do.

Not to mention, people with ADHD tend to probably feel it more or differently than others who don't have it. Because, SWIM was once told that person(s) with ADHD will feel more energetic when using drugs.

Yerba Mate is great - but it is NOTHING like marijuana. It's more like a 3 hour energy shot.

Ive been drinking Yerba Mate Guayaki and I can for sure say it is like a cannabis high but while being in the sam vognitive reality as everyone. Nothing is distorted really and I know who I am and where I am, but the difference is the deep conversations and critical thinking on almost normal things. This drink is amazing all organic, kosher, and you can tell by the logo espeacially its from Africa but distributed from California. Im surprised this drink is legal as well. Yoo good.

Did you realize there's a 12 word sentence you can communicate to your man... that will induce intense emotions of love and impulsive attraction to you deep within his heart?

That's because deep inside these 12 words is a "secret signal" that fuels a man's instinct to love, cherish and guard you with his entire heart...

12 Words Will Trigger A Man's Desire Impulse

This instinct is so built-in to a man's brain that it will drive him to work harder than ever before to take care of you.

Matter of fact, triggering this all-powerful instinct is absolutely binding to having the best possible relationship with your man that the moment you send your man one of the "Secret Signals"...

...You will soon find him expose his mind and soul to you in such a way he haven't expressed before and he will identify you as the only woman in the universe who has ever truly interested him.

I drink a liter of yerba mate a day and never felt high at all from it. Sounds like something a noob would say to sound edgy. It just clarifies your mind, makes you super focused on anything you do and energizes you while simultaneously relieving any anxiety, stress you may have, in a way it is very calming and yet energizing.

I suffer from constant anxiety and stress for no known reasons but yerba mate is the only thing that totally relieves all that. It brings a balance to the body and mind.

Cannabis can also relieve anxiety temporarily for me... until it makes me extremely paranoid and I have anxiety attacks. haha Cannabis is nothing like Yerba Mate.

Cannabis messes with your perception of reality, gives me trail vision and I can't do anything but watch movies.
On the other hand yerba mate can help make you very productive. Especially with physical activities. When I work out outside I often feel like I lose energy quickly and give up. But drinking yerba mate in the morning helps me go all day strong. A lot of athletes drink yerba mate for a natural sustained energy as it's loaded with minerals and vitamins.

A better way to describe yerba mate is like a strong camomile tea and espresso combined.
There is no high to it though. You're actually more cognitively functional.
